An independent project

PolyOS was created in Scratch by PIXAPoLY Software. PolyOS 7 for Debian is made by Cryptic Software, with the PolyOS team’s blessing. It is not made, sponsored or endorsed by the Scratch Foundation, MIT, the Debian project, Microsoft, Google, Valve, Apple, NVIDIA or any other company or project named on this site.

Provided as is

PolyOS is free software, released under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. It comes without any warranty, to the extent the law allows: not that it works for any particular purpose, runs on your computer, or is free of mistakes. You use it at your own risk.

Your drives and your data

  • Installing replaces everything on the drive you choose, including Windows or any other system and all files on it. It can’t be undone.
  • Back up your files first, to another drive or the cloud. Try PolyOS from the USB drive or in a virtual machine before installing it.
  • We aren’t responsible for lost data, a computer that won’t start, changes to firmware settings, or any other damage from installing or using PolyOS.

Firmware and drivers

Driver Manager can install drivers and firmware (BIOS/UEFI, SSDs, docks) that come from your computer’s maker through the Linux Vendor Firmware Service, and drivers from Debian and hardware makers. They’re provided by those makers under their own terms. Updating firmware can’t always be undone: keep the computer plugged in, and only update when you need to. Installing another operating system may affect your computer’s warranty or support; check with its maker.

Apps from other makers

Apps in PolyMarket (such as Google Chrome, Steam, Discord or Spotify), cloud gaming services and the drivers above come from their own makers, through Debian, Flathub or the makers themselves. They’re covered by their makers’ licenses, terms and privacy policies, not ours, and we can’t promise they work or stay available.

Not for critical use

PolyOS isn’t designed or tested for systems where a failure could cause harm: medical, safety, industrial control, emergency or similar uses. Don’t use it for them.

Online services

Poly Account, sync, backups and the update service are optional. We work to keep them running, but they’re provided as is and may change or be unavailable at times; PolyOS keeps working without them. The Terms of Service and Privacy Policy cover them.

Downloads

Download PolyOS only from this website, its GitHub releases or its SourceForge page, and check the download against the published SHA256 checksums. A copy from anywhere else may have been changed.

This website

We try to keep this site accurate, but features, screenshots and instructions can differ from the version you download, and may change without notice.

Trademarks

“Scratch” is a trademark of the Scratch Foundation. Debian is a registered trademark of Software in the Public Interest, Inc. Windows is a trademark of Microsoft; Google Chrome of Google; Steam of Valve; other names are trademarks of their owners. They’re used here only to describe what PolyOS works with, and don’t mean those companies support PolyOS.

Licenses

  • PolyOS for Debian: GNU General Public License v3 or later.
  • The PolyOS logo, colors and PIXAPoLY artwork: from the PolyOS 7 Scratch project, under CC BY-SA 2.0.
  • Debian and the software it includes: each package under its own license (see /usr/share/doc in PolyOS).
  • Poppins and Inter fonts: SIL Open Font License. The crystal wallpapers are third-party photos used by PolyOS 7.
  • Some drivers and firmware are non-free and covered by their makers’ licenses.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Cryptic Software and the people who make PolyOS aren’t liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost data, lost profits or damage to hardware, arising from downloading, installing or using PolyOS or Poly services. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
